The Adoptive Parent Support Group (APSG) is family-oriented,
non-judgmental, and open to any individual or to any family who has adopted or is pursuing adoption. Many of us have adopted
children, and our mission is to support our parents and their children, as well as to encourage prospective parents as they
dream of building their families through adoption. We are extremely tolerant and supportive of all walks of life, and we welcome
those who have been discriminated against or treated unfairly by other adoption agencies. We desire each individual or family
to be a part of this dynamic family team, and we strongly encourage positive attitudes and participation.
This active weekly support group meets every Friday evening from
7-10pm at the agency. In an open and supportive environment, perspective and adoptive parents are encouraged to share experiences
and learn from other parents, the agency’s staff, and guest speakers. The following are various topics from speaker
presentations and discussions:
·
Services: What is available in the community? · Families and acceptance: How do I share my decision with my relatives? · The Wait: coping with this emotional roller coaster · Preparing for Adoption Committee once you’ve been selected · Combining biological and adopted children · Preparing
your child’s teachers for the sensitivities of adoption · Untraditional families ·
